How to request the cremation service

Cremation is subject to very strict rules and may only be authorised by the mayor of the municipality where the death has occurred; this document may only be issued if at least one of the following criteria is complied with:
  • the willingness to do so is in the will of the deceased or has been expressed in his last will
  • the will is expressed by the spouse of the deceased or by one of his/her closest relatives
  • the deceased was registered in a cremation company
  • the ashes are handed over to the family a few days after the cremation.
The family members will decide whether the urn with the ashes will be buried in a small cell in the cemetery, dispersed in a dedicated cemetery area or dispersed in nature, far from residential areas.
